Fuga hardware maintenance 16/17 December

During the night of 16 on 17 December, we will perform maintenance to the Fuga platform to upgrade the hardware configurations of the compute nodes. This maintenance window starts at 00:01 CET and will end around 04:00 CET. We will add additional memory to the servers in small, carefully selected batches. We will bring each server and all instances on it down, add memory to the server, and reboot. We expect the downtime for servers and instances to be about 15 minutes each.

Fuga Newsletter October 2015

OpenStack Liberty released On October 15, the new version of OpenStack, Liberty, has officially been released. We have already started looking into the new release to flag the features we find most interesting and we will test them as soon as possible. We’ll create an internal proof of concept of the new release, perform compatibility tests and do a security review. Like with all previous releases, we intend to upgrade to this latest version as soon as we’ve tested the stability and new features.
OpenStack Benelux Conference & Launch Party

OpenStack Benelux Conference & Launch Party

On the 17th of September we attended the OpenStack Benelux Conference in Bussum to present Fuga. At the conference, Tjebbe de Winter, our CTO, joined John Zannos of Canonical on stage during his keynote presentation at the main podium. After this keynote, Fuga officially became a fact, since this was our first public appearance. Later in the afternoon, Tjebbe also gave a presentation for a smaller audience, where he explained a bit more about our development process, the design choices we made and the technologies we used to build Fuga.
OpenStack Pricing and Features

OpenStack Pricing and Features

This is just a quick update regarding information you’ve probably been waiting for. Today, we’ve published pricing and features on our OpenStack website (which is still a work in progress). We’re fairly certain this pricing is final, but it may still change nevertheless. You can also find a list of all the OpenStack features that will be part of the initial release of the service. A few are still in beta and will be added to the service when they are stable and secure enough.

Good news! We’re almost there! We’ve made significant progress on almost all aspects of our OpenStack platform and we’re nearly ready for an official launch. This week, we’ve performed one final major test and maintenance cycle on the platform in order to find and fix any remaining flaws. We’ve updated configurations and software, done some serious stress testing, and conducted disaster recovery tests. Naturally, we hoped to encounter as few weaknesses as possible.

Cyso OpenStack update June

Cyso OpenStack update June

We’ve had a really busy period with lots of OpenStack things going on. During the past month we’ve more than doubled the amount of beta testers on our platform, upgraded the entire platform to the latest OpenStack release, have worked on more features and made a great deal of progress on accounting and administrative functionality. Putting the platform through its paces Some of our new testers on the platform have been really pushing the platform and the I/O performance; we’ve had one instance of a user copying data at a speed of over 800 MB per second.
First results of beta testing

First results of beta testing

At the beginning of this month, we sent out the first invites and officially started our beta test period. We’re already seeing a lot of activity on the OpenStack platform and we’re getting positive feedback. We’re currently expanding the number of test accounts every week. Yesterday morning, we upgraded the platform to the latest release of OpenStack Juno (the 2014.2.2 bugfix release). We’ve done this without a notification in advance to the testers in order to see if the update procedure could be performed seamlessly without any significant impact.
Public beta testing starts today

Public beta testing starts today

First of all: thank you for your patience. We first told you that we would start our beta period for our new OpenStack services in late 2014. It’s now March 2015. There have been some delays, but the wait is nearly over. Today, we’re sending out the first invitations for our OpenStack beta trial period. We’ve had far more parties interested in test driving our OpenStack platform than we had originally anticipated, so we can’t open up the platform to everyone all at once.
OpenStack project status January

OpenStack project status January

It’s been a while since we last gave an update about our progress regarding OpenStack. We had hoped to be able to start the public beta before the end of 2014. Unfortunately, that turned out differently. Last time, we mentioned that the platform had been upgraded to the Juno release. We had upgraded the existing platform from the previous (Icehouse) OpenStack release. In order to further test real disaster recovery, we performed a complete reinstall of the platform next.
